This is such a fantastic piece, I really have some difficulty parting with it. Vorpal Gallery was one of the few American galleries licensed to do authentic MC Escher shows. I have attempted to suss it out, but have not yet been able to determine if the image of The Gazing Ball on this invitational print is from Escher's actual woodcut or not. It is certainly a possibility, and that would make this a true Escher print (and markedly underpriced, at that). Even if it is not, it is an original, significant piece for a major, contemporary showing of one of the most renowned artists of geometry, tessellation, and the art of woodcut. Plus this invitation piece has all the appeal of the 4 fantastic cities hosting a showing. Imagine swinging in '75 at any of these gallery shows in SoHo, San Francisco, Laguna Beach, or Chicago? You might have rubbed elbows with Andy Warhol, contemplated life with Dylan, partied with Mick, meditated with Lennon. No doubt the shows were well attended, and critically well received.
Print is in excellent condition, see pictures for measurements. When we bought this, it was in a frame, never rolled or folded, no tack holes. The frame was sealed along all edges. It's too heavy to ship and this piece could use a more artful choice. So we took the print out of the frame for shipping. We wrapped the print in tissue paper and sealed it between heavy cardboard until sold, as to keep the air from getting to it. I may change my mind on listing this, like a couple of our other items, so fair warning!
